What you see above are not two images of the same place. What you're looking at is an in-game screenshot of a Minecraft video game world next to a real-life photograph of Lake Moraine.
It isn't until you zoom in that you can see all the square blocks that make up the left image, as seen below.
In order to create this, user JakBB says he used software called World Machine to generate a heightmap, and then imported the data into Minecraft using World Painter. So, instead of it taking hundreds if not thousands of hours as it would if he were to have built everything himself, it took around eight hours.

A similar process has been used to recreate a variety of virtual worlds over the years, including one project that translated World of Warcraft's original continents into Minecraft.
